Overview
The following programs are provided as aids for the resin formulator and the general coatings industry at large.
The programs are free to use and distribute provided, the downloaded zip files are provided without modification or alteration in any way. These programs are copyrighted and provided 'as-is' without warranty or liability of any kind.
Installation of both programs is fairly easy and is described separately for each. Note, however, that some firewalls might 'object' during installation or when the program is first run. This is simply because the programs currently have 'few users' and they connect to (their own) databases - both of which firewalls can object to. In such cases, please refer to the documents that cover your firewalls' settings and enable the 'trust' setting for the program. Once this has been done, the problem should not reoccur. If your PC/Laptop has an administrator assigned (for example, if it's a company owned computer), then the administrator might have to install the program for you.
Calculator for Polyesterification reactions - lite version
A Windows 32 bit program I wrote many years ago for calculating the standard design parameters for polyester resins (Alkyds, modified alkyds, saturated and unsaturated polyesters). It was designed for Windows 7 but works fine with Windows 10. It may take some time to start the program, after installation, but otherwise the program itself, and the calculations it performs, runs quickly. For those that have my Resin Laboratory Lab Book installed, this program runs independently (different databases) and it should be quite safe to run both at the same time, provided they are placed in separate directories.
The zip file contains all the required files for operation, including the database (in the subdirectory /data). Just download and unzip the file in any directory you wish such as in your documents directory or even in a separate directory on an internal or external hard drive (or flash drive, although this is not recommended). The executable file is LECalc.exe which can be started by simply opening the directory and double clicking with a mouse or creating a shortcut on your desktop. Just remember to make a backup of the database files in the /data directory from time to time.
The program does not use any registry entries, so just deleting the directory it was placed in will remove it from your PC/laptop in its entirety, permanently. If need be, make a backup of the directory before you do so in case it may come in handy at a later time.
Otherwise, further information on using the program is available within the program menu bar under the 'Help' menu item.
Please also note that the program is copyrighted and that that the program is used at your own discretion and carries no warranty.
Viscosity Converter
A Windows program I wrote to enable a rapid 'look-up' of the value from one viscosity measurement to another, rather than searching through piles of paper and/or online documents to get a comparison. The database was created from information collected over the years and there are caveats to the accuracy. Just click on the help button on the program for more details.
The download zip file contains a setup file for the program that, when run, will automatically install the viscosity conversion program in the "\Program Files (x86)\" directory under a new "Polymer Solutions\Visco Converter\" subdirectory and will add a desktop shortcut. Note that this program, unlike the Polyester Calculator above, is not portable, and must be installed in the Programs folder of the computer by default. There are, however, no restrictions on how many Windows computers it is installed on.
The program does not use any registry entries or other files so just deleting the directory it was placed in will remove it from your PC/laptop permanently. As this program is installed the conventional way, via a Windows setup program, it can also be uninstalled via the control panel/programs and features page.
The program is 'read only' and the data cannot be changed.
